The Magic of Journaling
journaling is a key 🔐
There are many ways to feel toward. Toward yourself, your hopes + dreams, your feelings, your losses, your growth. One of these ways, for me, is journaling.
I’m not a lifelong journaler. I’m not even a consistent journaler. But I have felt the magic in journaling and love when my blessed ADHD brain aligns with my desire to journal.
It has been deeply healing to my inner child to find my way back to journaling. I remember exactly when I stopped and feel a sense of sadness and loss when I wonder what it would be like to have more writing + journaling to look back on over the years.
I used to be fascinated by diaries and journaling. Of course, Nancy Drew created a fantasy for me of the mystery and intrigue of old, forgotten diaries. But I also adored The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes, a childhood favorite book series that sparked individuality.
Abby Hayes inspired me with her personality and “it’s okay to be different”-ness. Her stories were told through her journal entries. And these were no average journal entries. Because Abby Hayes wrote in purple ink. 💜
Forgotten Magic 📝
Sometime into my own childhood journaling experiences, I vividly remember my mom asking to ready my journal. How could I say no? But I was too sensitive for my intended to be private thoughts to be witnessed, and journaling lost its magic.
After this breach of my personal world and innermost thoughts, years and years passed without journaling or much writing at all besides homework, research papers, and everyday lists.
Now here I am, journaling again. Armed with boundaries and the readiness to heal my relationship with writing and journaling.
I am an external processer. And the ability to express my thoughts on a page is a restorative type of magic or, print of magic (pun intended). 🖋️
Trying Something New 💭
I have been loving the Safe In Our World Sidekick Journal. So much so that I am planning a journaling stream this Friday, September 29th. This aligns with my desire to stream in alignment with my own cycles, including the cycles of the moon, because the full moon in Aries is also this Friday.
I also have a copy of Sidekick to giveaway, courtesy of Safe In Our World, an incredible mental health charity. I hope you join me for a full moon & journaling stream, this Friday September 29th at 8 pm CST, on Twitch.
You can order a copy of Sidekick with free shipping here (until September 30th). While it may not arrive in time, I will share some of the prompts on stream and you will be supporting an incredible organization.
Hexes & Enchantments🔮
In many editions of Game Hex, I will share a hex or practice to help you root into yourself and your magic. I welcome you to engage with an open heart.
Hex to Welcome Fall & The Energy of Receiving
We all deserve to receive, and receiving is a practice, a state of mind, and an openness to your own deservingness. On a piece of paper: - Draw yourself, an outline of yourself, or something to represent you in the center of your page - Surrounding this, write, draw, or collage the energy you are open to recieving This is a practice in receiving, welcoming, worth, and openness. Upon completion, take time to embody the energy of receiving. Visualize what it would feel like to receive everything you expressed on the page. Notice what arises and acknowledge any discomfort. Create space in your heart for everything you envision. Finally, release attachment to any specific thing or desire, and move into fall embodying the energy of receiving and your own undeniable deservingness.

I’ve just discovered your Substack. Loving it 🥰
Journaling is a powerful tool for sure. I’ve kept journals for most of my life, although I don’t have as much time for it nowadays. Reading this post has prompted me to spend some time on it asap.
